The Stranger House - Love the way that Reginald made this change of pace and style in this great supernaturally tinged mystery. Made even more special by being the first time I’d had the pleasure of hearing him speak about his work and getting my copy signed afterwards. Was so pleased to see him so deservedly rewarded at Harrogate last month.

The Stranger House. I was lucky enough to get a copy signed by the author at the Harrogate Crime Festival in 2005. He gave a talk about his work and was a fascinating and down-to-earth raconteur. This book has an intricately inter-woven plot with which keeps your brain following in top gear right to the dramatic and satisfying ending.

Trying to decide on just one was very difficult but, “Pictures of perfection” just nudged out “Dialogues of the Dead” and “Bones and Silence” for the top spot.

Wieldy taking a turn in the spotlight, the pulling apart of supposedly “cosy” village life, and the quotes from Jane Austen’s letters which head each chapter are fabulous - my favourite is “If I am a wild beast, I cannot help it” just a perfect Austen quote for Andy Daziel!

A Clubbable Woman : it was very difficult trying to get hold of a copy of this novel.At times it was akin to actually playing a role in a (tracking down)investigation.It was worth the effort and made me want to read the rest of Reginald’s fiction.
