Jessie Keane is the youngest of eight children, and the only girl in a family of boys. Her father was a self-made chauffeur-driven business man, her mother of gypsy stock.
The very early years of her life were luxurious and idyllic and she distinguished herself as artistic and bright at primary school, winning her first prize for writing aged 8.
