Q&A with author Emma Kavanagh @EmmaLK #killerfest15

Category: Author Post

Your name: Emma Kavanagh

Tell us about yourself: I have a PhD in psychology, am a police & military psychologist turned author, and am now kept entertained as the mother of two small boys (aged 3 and 6 months).

Tell us about your latest book: Hidden is published on 23rd April, 2015. It unravels the story of events leading up to a shooting at a hospital, unpicking the lives of those who, unbeknownst to them, will soon become caught up in the horrors of this day.

When did you start writing? I wrote my first short story when I was 5. It got me a gold star and a lollipop, and that was pretty much it for me. I took a break from writing whilst I was completing my degrees, but once I started again there was no going back.

Where do you write? I don’t have an office as that has now been commandeered by my youngest son. Instead I have a chair in the living room that my 3 year old describes as my work chair. I dream of a writing shed.

Which other authors do you admire? So many! Kate Atkinson, Agatha Christie, Barbara Kingsolver are some of my most long standing heroes. More recently, I’ve loved Emily St John Mandel, Samantha Shannon, & Justin Cronin.

Book you wished you’d written? There are a couple I could pick for this. And Then There Were None by Agatha Christie. Life After Life by Kate Atkinson.

Greatest fictional criminal: I would have to say Hannibal Lecter.

Greatest fictional detective: Hercule Poirot

What scares you? Ghosts (seriously! Don’t mention the Woman In Black to me!)

Are you ever disturbed by your own imagination? Every. Single. Day.

3 crime books you would recommend to EVERYONE:

Do you listen to music when you write? No

Are you on social media? Yes. Twitter.

How can fans connect with you? Via Twitter (@EmmaLK) or my publishers, Arrow.
