It's always been my life's ambition to write detective novels, but I wasn't always a novelist. For many years I worked as an economist, and spent the days dreaming about writing a book. One Christmas, my mother, brother and husband booked me onto a writing course – and my dream finally came true! In 2003, my first book The Ice Princess was published in Sweden and now, my seventh book, The Lighthouse, is on its way to the UK in 2013.
People find it hard to imagine that the idyllic Fjällbacka could be home to so many murders. It seems that people all around the world have the impression that Sweden is the perfect country. According to them, we have no crime and we have no problems, but that is absolutely a misconception. I like to think that you can find a piece of actual Sweden in my books.
I grew up in Fjällbacka, so it's the place I know best in the world. It's a very beautiful place because of its starkness, so for me it's the perfect setting. The environment has created some very tough people. In fact, sometimes one or two real people still living in the area become part of the plot! The Fjällbacka that you read about hasn't changed. Like in the books, thousands of tourists flock to Fjällbacka in the summer, but for the rest of the year there is only a small community. The dynamic is different to that of a big city, as all of the human emotions are concentrated and you also have the pressure of, 'what will the neighbours say', which is definitely something I've grown up with and something that often influences the characters in my books.
As for the fictional characters in the book, Patrik and Erica have become so real to me that I can even tell you their favourite foods. They've grown up as I have and I can't wait to see where they take me next.
As for now, please have a look around the site where you'll be able to read an extract from each of the books in the series, and for more information about me and the series, please visit camillalackberg.com or follow me on Facebook
Happy Reading!
