Three cheers for Heresy!

heresyWe are thrilled that S.J. Parris has been shortlisted for the CWA Ellis Peters’ Historical Award for her debut crime novel Heresy. The judges describe it as ‘An astonishingly accomplished first outing for Giordano Bruno, monk, poet and sleuth, investigating skulduggery in Elizabethan Oxford.  Parris has resurrected an undeservedly forgotten figure and her depiction of a society riven by religious intolerance is timely.’ And we couldn’t agree more.

Heresy is out in paperback in March along with Prophecy, her second steph-merritnovel to feature maverick agent Giordano Bruno. In Prophecy Bruno once again finds himself investigating a gruesome murder as the body of one of Queen Elizabeth’s maids of honour is found within the palace walls. Occult symbols carved into her young flesh point to black magic, but the truth could be even more sinister…
