reg-hillWe’re pleased to announce that Reginald Hill has made the shortlist for the Portico Prize for Fiction for Midnight Fugue, a unique award given to books about, or set mainly in, the North of England. Past winners include Val McDermid and Anthony Burgess so he’s in great company.

Described as ‘a sort of genteel, very funny and extremely well-written version of 24‘ by the Daily Telegraph, Midnight Fugue sees Dalziel groggy but recovered from the terrorist blast that put him into a coma in The Death of Dalziel. The wife, or widow, of a London policeman needs to know her husband is really dead before remarrying. Dalziel and Pascoe must investigate the shady background of the now respectable former gangster Goldie Gidman, who may be connected to his disappearance, and whose Tory MP son has prime ministerial ambitions… midnight-fugue
